The original Keyways vineyards, which were exclusively Zinfandel grapes, were established in the mid 1960s by the master developer of Rancho California to determine the viability of establishing a wine country area in the Inland Empire. Keyways Winery was opened in October 1989 by the original founder and winemaker, Carl Key. Mr. Key was a successful restaurant owner and real estate investor in Orange County with a vision to create high quality, estate wines and to produce other premium varietals from the Temecula and other California Appellations.
In 2004, Terri Pebley, a successful Temecula business woman, purchased the winery and surrounding property and keyways embarked on a new era. The new Keyways Winery has the unique distinction of being the first woman owned winery in Temecula Valley, and one of the few in California. Between 2004 and 2006, the entire estate has undergone an extensive make-over including the tasting room, production facility, the vineyards - and the newest addition - a 3500sq ft Event Center.
While the new tasting room provides an elegantly rustic environment for guests to enjoy wine tasting and gift browsing, the Event Center offers an elegant option for weddings and special events. The beautiful new landscaping creates an inviting and romantic setting for wine tasting, weddings, concerts, picnics, meetings or a stroll around the grounds to enjoy the views and beautiful wine country weather. The old estate vines have been removed and replanted with new varieties of Viognier, Roussanne, Tempranillo and Grenache. This will delight the changing palates of today's wine enthusiast and establish the Keyways estate wines of the future.
Terri and the other talented women of her senior management team bring a decidedly feminine touch to the art and romance of visiting an estate winery. The feminine touch is seen in the warmly decorated tasting room, the display and quality of the gift shop, the warm welcome from employees and the exceptional service with each visit. Keyways Winery invites you to 'Share the Romance'.
